Teaching & Book Clubs
I teach Book Lab, a year-long class at Hugo House in Seattle for writers looking to finish and revise a book-length manuscript (fiction or memoir) and take their next steps on the path to publication. I also coach writers through The Novelry, an online writing program for beginning to advanced fiction writers looking for community, instruction and help with the submission process.

And I love to visit Book Clubs, either in person or remotely. I ask only that all members purchase a copy of the book to be discussed and that we limit the discussion time to one hour.

“Tara is my dream editor. She gives the perfect feedback, both at a sentence by sentence level and a structural level, to turn a piece of writing from an unfocused mush into something rigorous and publishable, and somehow manages to do it with such a kind, positive touch that you end up feeling great and energized rather than demoralized.”
— Ruth Whippman, author of America the Anxious, How Our Pursuit of Happiness is Creating a Nation of Nervous Wrecks
"Tara greatly improved my novel as I transitioned to fiction from nonfiction. She was supportive and accessible, yet straightforward about potential edits and changes that were helpful to the story. Her years of experience writing and publishing made clear ideas that may have taken me a lifetime to learn. I would definitely work with her again."
— Allison Augustyn, writer, Chicago Sun-Times, Seattle Times, and University of Chicago Press
